Eva and I humbly thank the management of De Hoop Collection for the friendly welcome and the beautiful accommodation given to us at the “Giant Kingfisher”.
Four wonderful days spent in nature with ostriches, tortoises, bookies, lots of birds and other surprises right in front of our doorstep.
Of course, a big “Thank You” goes to the staff of the Fig Tree Restaurant who was always alert, friendly and accommodating and also to Elandi, a Nature & Marine Guide, for the enjoyable ride down to the sea. Her dedication and enthusiasm is very inspiring. It’s a pity, even at low tide (neap tide), the sea did not invite us to stroll along the shore line. Next time.
Having been an excursion with very limited time, still Elandi brought her knowledge across being it on shrubs, bokkies or birds.
I would have loved to do the four days hike but I guess I would have missed out on the short strolls we did in the surroundings nearby with its wetlands, beautiful settings and wildlife all around us.
On the last day we met with Dalfrenzo Laing (see the brief story on “Cultural Tourism and De Hoop Collection”). Dalfrenzo, already for three years a guide for De Hoop Collection and born in Napier, has gathered comprehensive knowledge on past indigenous live in the vicinity.
With one (long) leg in the tourism industry I would love to see the relation grow between AFRICANI and De Hoop Collection to that extend that those interested in South Africa’s culture will be guided by Dalfrenzo to explore the DE HOOP NATURE RESERVE and surroundings with its cultural treasures.
It goes without saying “we will be back”!
