Residents of Kleinvlei in Eersterivier celebrated Heritage day with lots of fun at the Kleinvlei Sportsgrounds.
The day was used to pay tribute to the Khoikhoi and San (Bushman) ancestors. Local speakers reminded the crowd about the rich Khoikhoi and Bushman cultural heritage.
Bishop James Joseph of the Apostolic Mission Church opened the proceedings with a prayer and children of Happy Land Educare sang the national anthem. Ron Martin, Daniel Swarts and Lilian MacDonald also addressed the crowd about our cultural heritage and how communities changed over the years.
Traditional games were played e.g. dominos, karem, chess, morabaraba, street soccer and much more.
Games were supplied by Come and Play (City of Cape Town). NGO’s from the region helped with the organisation. Collony Faans and Moses Rutsa of NEWCAR also contributed to make the day a success. Faans hopes that Heritage Day of 2011 will be an even bigger event and that more community organizations, and local businesses will get involved.
The day ended with everybody enjoying the snacks supplied by Come and Play.
